trawler//trash (#6)

This belated episode of trawler//trash features fresh, young Tokyo artist Maki Hikita. Maki's almost entirely monochrome work is characterised by flowing, strong lines, startling detail, and her unique take on nature. Only Maki knows the message in each of her pieces, but the sheer intricacy of the detail entices one to speculate as to the hidden meaning in each one. With a strong personal style, Maki's work appears to have the makings of something big. If you like amateur art, and you want to see some of Tokyo's best, check out the link below.

trawler//trash (#4)

This time, trawler//trash features Tokyo-based British illustrator Rob Kidney. His second appearance, Rob Kidney has an impressive CV of design and illustration work across a variety of media. Some great stuff is displayed on his Chopups blog (chopups.blogspot.com), which consists of innovative and thought-provoking pieces inspired by Tokyo and Tokyoites. Rob's illustration style is nothing short of totally unique, and his commentary has the ability to strike a chord with anyone who's had first-hand experience of 21st Century urban life.

Weekly Art: trawler//trash (#3)

This week's trawler//trash features Tokyo tattoo artist Carlos, proprietor of the Tattoo Church shop in Shimo-kitazawa. A highly-regarded, well-travelled and experienced tattooist, Carlos' versatility, attention to detail and skill as a designer is exquisite, to say the least. As word of mouth in the city will confirm, upon entering Tokyo's Tattoo Church, a refreshingly bright, airy, friendly and multilingual atmosphere awaits.
